Sigiriya and Dambulla Day Tour
A typical day tour of Sigiriya and Dambulla usually starts early in the morning, with a pick-up from your hotel.
Sigiriya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for its ancient rock fortress. The fortress, which was built in the 5th century, is perched on a giant rock column over 600 feet high. The climb to the top of the fortress is quite steep and challenging, but once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The fortress also boasts of impressive ancient frescoes and well-preserved ruins of the palace and gardens of the ancient king.
Dambulla, on the other hand, is known for its cave temples, which are also UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These ancient temples were carved into a giant rock and contain over 150 statues of the Buddha and other deities, as well as numerous wall paintings that depict various scenes from Buddhist mythology.
The tour usually ends with a drop-off at your hotel in the late evening.
