Jaffna is a hub of Hindu art, tradition and the colorful history intertwined with religion, located in the Northernmost point of Sri Lanka. It has gone through its fair share of tense situations dating back to the medieval times when the Kingdom of Aryachakravarti fended off the pressures by Pandyan kings to the conflict caused by the multi-decade long civil war.
One of the notable sites of Jaffna is the Nallur Kandasvamy Hindu Temple built in due respect for Lord Murugan, the god of love, war and beauty.
Jaffna fort is another attraction which was built during the time ceylon was occupied by the Portuguese and subsequently by the Dutch who renovated it.
Another notable locale is the famous Jaffna public library which was once hailed as one of the biggest libraries in Asia.
